Interest in developmental disabilities |
I have been privileged over the past 30 years of working in the field of developmental disabilities to have been a part of the many transitions, changes and struggles to improve the services that our state has provided for people with disabilities. I have a strong interest in securing the gains we have made to make our communities better places for people to live their lives as happy, contributing and valued citizens. As an advocate for people with disabilities, I continue to experience the rewards of seeing people learn to speak for themselves in a variety of voices. Over and over again I am reinforced that we are on the right path when I see the confidence and ability people with developmental disabilities exhibit when they have a say in what happens to them and when they are supported with respect and dignity. |
Experience in developmental disabilities |
I have had more than 30 years of working experience in various capacities with people with developmental disabilities starting with direct care of consumers to creating, implementing and directing the current programs we provide today. I feel that I have always been an advocate for the people that I serve from the first consumer's discharge meeting I attended at Cambridge State Hospital to the present service delivery system. As part of the Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities I hope to continue to make sure that our consumers continue to be the focus of the work we do. |
Anything else about yourself |
I have been married for 36 years, have 3 grown children and my first grandchild soon to arrive. It's very exciting!! I enjoy art and music. I love living in the Chisago Lakes area because it's been a great rural community to raise children in and... I can drive into the city whenever I want a more "metro" experience. |
