| Interest in developmental disabilities | As I grew up, I watched my parents work through, and some times battle, various systems (school, medical, insurance) in order to help my younger sister who has Cerebral Palsy. Today, my wife and I often work through/battle the very same systems to help our children who have developmental disabilities. I want to make life easier for individuals and families who live with developmental disabilities and find themselves battling the same systems my parents battled. I want to make it easier by providing information and resources about available supports that will make their lives easier. |
| Experience in developmental disabilities | My wife, Laura, and I have adopted 6 children, 4 have developmental disabilities. We have over 20 years personal experience working with our own children and other like-minded families who have opened their homes to children with a wide array of special needs. I am also a Support Planner. As a Support Planner I write plans for individuals who receive waiver funding and have chosen the Consumer Directed Community Supports (CDCS) option. |
| Anything else about yourself |
I have served on the boards of Arc Anoka, Ramsey, Arc Great Rivers, and Arc Greater Twin Cities. I am currently on the Executive Team of Joni and Friends Mpls/St. Paul – a ministry to the disabled. My oldest daughter, who has Cerebral Palsy, and I have spoken to over 700 people about disability, technology for people with disabilities, and her favorite topic, her service dog. When I'm not speaking, taking care of my children, or working, I enjoy baseball and hockey. I especially enjoy hanging out at the hockey rink to watch my two young sons practice or play. |
