| Interest in developmental disabilities | Although Peg’s professional involvement with persons with developmental disabilities began in the mid-1980s, her personal involvement began many years earlier. While in her early teens, Peg’s mother became a foster parent to a child who was both developmentally disabled and physically challenged. This remarkable person, who was in every sense of the word, her brother, was a member of Peg’s family for over 20 years. |
| Experience in developmental disabilities | Prior to relocating to Minnesota from Connecticut, in addition to on-going work as an independent consultant, Peg has worked in a variety of capacities supporting people with disabilities including: director of quality assurance for a medical service organization providing clinical services to persons with special needs; Willowbrook Consultant to the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities; director of a supportive apartment program for persons with mental illness and developmental disabilities; case manager for children who were medically fragile/technology dependent and; director of programs for an agency providing residential and employment services for adults with autism. In 1991, Peg was provided with a unique opportunity to participate as an auditor for the Office of the Willowbrook Special Master. The Willowbrook class action litigation involved over 4,000 individuals with developmental disabilities in New York State. Peg has participated in numerous reviews of class action lawsuits involving persons with disabilities or mental illness in a number of states including, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Florida. |
