| Interest in developmental disabilities |
I had the opportunity to work with individuals with disabilities both developmental disabilities, spinal cord disabilities, congenital disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, deaf and hard of hearing, visually impaired and every other disability both cognitive and physical for over 30 years.
In this time I have been fascinated with the resilience of the human spirit and ability to overcome the challenges that a cognitive disability presents. I also understand the need for strong advocacy with and on behalf of these individuals both by families and professionals.
I am truly dedicated to the philosophy that human beings no matter what their situation have an innate desire for employment. One of my goals with working with individuals with disabilities is to maximize their opportunities with employment. |
| Experience in developmental disabilities |
I have had the opportunity to work with individuals with disabilities both in group homes settings, through courage center for 10 years within the residential program, an opportunity partners with their traumatic brain injury program.
While there we worked hand-in-hand with maximizing and dovetailing services that would benefit not only the TBI program but the developmentally disabled programs as well. I also had an opportunity to work at goodwill Easter seals providing placement services to broad-spectrum individuals with disabilities and this of damages.
I've been focusing my efforts working with the state of Minnesota for the last 11 years developing opportunities for employment broad-spectrum. |
| Anything else about yourself |
I truly have been fortunate of working with so many individuals with disabilities that have taught me so much about the important things in life. It is about helping actualize respect and dignity for all individuals and giving them the opportunity to be self determining regarding where they work, where they live and where they play. It is being a good Stewart of taxpayer dollars to ensure that individuals receive the services that are going to maximize their independence while being respectful of their individuality and self-determination. |
